He was placed in an incubator after surgery and was given pain injections. My vet gave me the option of taking him home tonight and as much as I wanted to opted not to do so. She is 2 hrs away and should there be an after surgery emergency I want him close. There are emergency vet clinics closer but I would not trust my birds to just anyone. Sooo, Bo spent the rest of his day at the vet's office and the last I checked was being packed up to be brought to Dr. H's home for a "sleep-over".
I can't wait for Bo to be home !! I'll try to update tomorrow if he feels up to it and me too after another 4 hr. round trip. My emotions are drained but in a very good way ! Thank you ALL again so very much. The financial help was a huge relief and w/ his on-going surgery and treatment a true blessing but most of all ... thank you all for your healing thoughts and prayers ... we could not have done this w/o a single one of you that have carried us through this so very close to your heart. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart and my some kind of miracle touch your life this year as it has mine, thank you.
1/11/06 - Bo came home today. I am so glad my gut feeling told me not to bring him home last night. He managed to get to his stitches and reopened a few, so he had to be re-stitched first thing this AM. He now has to be on antibiotics because his beak digging in of course exposed the incision to possible bacterial infection. We can not afford another infection causing necrosis of the tissue. If he has to go in for any more surgeries it will be difficult to be able to pull any skin back closed. It was actually a miracle that my vet managed it this time.
He goes to have the stitches removed in 10 days. I can remove the bandage and apply the BioDres after 48-72 hrs. He did not want to eat for them yesterday. Today when I picked him up they brought out the carrier w/ it covered up due to the weather ... I peeked into the carrier and he came running up w/ a tiny shoot up of the crest and said, "Hi BoBo, hi.". He got home and saw his play-gym and did beggar wings to go to it. He quickly changed his mind when he saw the bananas and beggar winged to go to the counter where he dug into a banana. I was happy to see he was wanting to eat as soon as he was home. He is back to being fed on flat surfaces because he is sore, stiff (skin pulling) and the collar plus bandages throws him even more off balance. He is such a trooper !!
The lump removed from the wing can take from 14-30 days to come back. I requested that it NOT go to the 1st lab who screwed up so badly on his 1st diagnosis, for it to go straight to Uni. of Ga., and they stay sooo busy. No bird in my care will ever have anything done at the first lab ever again. What if when I was told of the diagnosis I had decided to immediately put him down? There is no cure for the first diagnosis and some people would of said, "I can't watch this happen and bond w/ him more. Please do it now." What a horrible thing that would of been to happen!!
Well everyone ... thank you for your continued support and prayers. Let focus our energies on * NO MORE SURGERIES* !! Thank you all again so very much!
