3/24/06 - I arrived at Sunny's (Bo's mom) on Thursday evening. I can't even describe how I felt when I finally met Bo. I picked him up and sat down on the chair with him and he cuddled right in. He is such a sweet and gentle guy. He's friendly and so trusting considering the neglect he's endured. You would think he would hate humans for what they had done to him in the past. But his soul is so forgiving.

We put him on the floor to run around and my emotions took over. I fought the urge to cry as I watched this gentle soul run around on the floor. I thought about how he was dumped off at that store and then left to die in that cage. He wouldn't be here to know what it was to be loved if something larger than us didn't bring Sunny to that place to by chance, find him in that closet.

Sunny has to shower Bo every day to help keep his skin moist. Bo hates every minute of it. After the shower, he's misted down with distilled water to wash off any chlorine and such that your typical city water has in it. He then has to air dry with his collar on so he doesn't pick at his wound that is still healing from this last surgery. He mumbles complaints and whines because he hates the collar. It's heartbreaking, but it has to be done to keep his skin in good condition around his breast and wound. Again, he is so forgiving. I spent some time just preening his head and he lowered it down for me. He patiently waited to dry and Sunny then put his protective breast plate on and his sweater. He just seems to be so happy and well adjusted. He's out with the other large birds and seems to enjoy the relaxed company.

I'll write more in another day or so. I just want to say that I've never met a bird like Bo. There is something so meek and honest about him. He truly is something special and I feel so honored to finally meet him. We had to take a photo of me presenting the check from the fundraiser to him! $830 that WE all raised to help this special guy. Thank you again everyone for your kindness in helping this very deserving creature!
